Upright pianos are the usual choice for first time piano buyers. This is partly because of the lower cost of most upright pianos (also called vertical pianos). Another curious reason for choosing an upright over a grand is the feeling that they don’t deserve something as wonderful as a grand piano.
Upright pianos measure about five feet across the front and are about two feet deep. They range in height from 36 inches to over 52 inches tall.
